I Have Something To Say.

After reading another confession, I am speechless, don't know what to say really. When I first decided to write, I thought about using a pen name, but I chose not to because I really don't give a damn if the people in my life judge me for writing what my own mother has called, "gay porn." This coming from a woman who religiously reads anything Harlequin books churns out since she was 14 years old.
My family and some of my friends are as homophobic as a person can get. It's the Jamaican culture I'm afraid, but its not enough to stop me from doing something I love, and something I'm working hard to perfect. I keep my personal life, my personal social media, just that personal. But I don't hide my writing. I am sure if my family wants to dig they don't have to go far, but we have a line drawn in the sand. Let me be me and do what I do. If you don't like it, too bad. I'm going to still be me. I give them the same courtesy.
The same when it comes to my job, although there are those at work who know what I write as an author, and they are my biggest supporters. I am blessed that way, and I know some people are not, but to lie to people in the community that you support, a group of talented like minded people in a group you are supposed to be a part of is not cool.
It's like being at home, if you can't be yourself amongst your peers then you need to really look at yourself. If you choose to write using a pen name, own it, but don't create a whole new identity and use it to befriend people who honestly grow to care about you. It's a waste of time, and it abuses people trust and emotions. I guess I did find something to say after all...lol.
My name is Dianna Bell, I am a 38 year old woman, a mother to four beautiful girls, a grandma to one gorgeous baby boy. I write gay romance/erotica. I work in healthcare, I am pursuing my Degree in Nursing. I was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica and raised in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. That's me, and I am proud of doing what I do, and I can only hope to get better and become an amazing author one day.
